Breakwater Party - Nov 2010

The following pictures were taken last evening - a few of us got together and shared our meal under a bright full moon. The 'cobs' which are those 'flying saucer' type barbeques on the ground are a great cooking device and our neighbours from Czech Republic, Bo and Rada cooked stuffed squid on theirs and Liz and John, alias Zee Zee John (can you guess which one he is) cooked sausages and we fired up our barbeque on the boat and added chicken and potato wedges.
As you can see we had quite a complement of furry guests too. These cats all live amongst the large rocks which make up the breakwater - the sad looking ginger/white tom cat is the daddy of many of the others. I would love to take him and look after him - he looks so sad. Unfortunately I don't think we would do very well travelling with him aboard - he's never been tame, chances are he'd rip our faces off if we tried to catch him.
We are enjoying incredible weather at present - truly and Indian Summer with bright crisp sunshine, 21 degrees and cool nights perfect for hunkering down under the duvet for a good sleep. Many of us are taking advantage of the good weather to work on our boats. The sound of power tools on the dock is the norm at present, and I'm about to get my sewing machine going again to carry on with replacing the boat canvasses which are all pretty worn out.
So far I've replaced the hatch covers - the bimini and the mainsail cover. Not too happy with the finishing on a couple of things so I'll go at them again to improve them.
Tony has been doing his favourite boat task - caulking - (definitely not his favourite). When Tony caulks his evil alter ego comes to the fore and makes the task even worse for him. Moondancer requires alot of caulking if we are to keep the water out and he's getting it done, albeit unhappily.

Captain Tony,
I am very disappointed you have decided to foresake the wonderful world of makeup for the grubby, nasty world of caulking. You look so much better with that Max Pharter #5 rouge than with that black shit smeared all over your bod.

Moored in Sausalito - San Francisco Bay

Eureka is a very nice town/city. It has an old town section which is very picturesque, mostly 'Victorian', 'Edwardian' hotels, business buildings, houses dating back to the late 1800's. Its amazing to walk around the town and think that in its heyday men were still riding the ranges shooting each other - and now it all looks so sedate and very beautiful. There is already the feel of California in the type of shops and the way the young people look. Its hard to describe that look - kinda rasta/hippy/yuppy, dunno - it's alot like San Francisco. We were told that we must see a particular Victorian house - "the most photographed Victorian in the world" - quite the statement, which of course we were cynical about. Because we forgot our map, we were instantly lost but were helped by a friendly barber who knew exactly which building we meant by the description "the most........". March 31st - Grand Cayman - Very Welcoming

Its hard to believe that we've been here 4 days. It is very strange to go from Spanish speaking latin countries where we knew we would get good ceviche and good local beer, because we knew 2 Spanish words, cervesa and ceviche, to Grand Cayman where we are tied up to a mooring just offshore of a Burger King fast food restaurant. I guiltily admit that we have already had 2 burger and fries meals in 4 days. Arriving and checking in here has been such a pleasant experience. The greeting and welcome from the Port Captain was so professional and 'welcoming', the first Port Captain who has welcomed us into their port. The Customs and Immigration Officers came to our boat to fill in the forms, which they brought with them and would have been happy to photocopy our documents if needed, but we already had that taken care of. The 2 officers, a man and a women kept up a lively conversation in patois we had trouble following, but they included us and we had conversations about our teena
